Skin Bleaching A Disturbing Problem In Jamaica

Both men and women, mostly from the poorer parts of Jamaica, have turn to the bleaching cream to get that brown tan look that a lot of people are craving worldwide. But why is this so? Majority of the bleachers know that this practice damage their skin. They know it is not healthy, but they continue to do it and the authorities are not doing enough to stop this disturbing trend.

This is definitely a social problem that needs to be addressed urgently. No longer should the government sit and watch people damage their skin because they think it will make them more beautiful or more accepted. This is so not the case, on the contrary they look a lot worse when they bleach their skin.

In the video below, the doctor said that some of them can’t even go out in the sun because of the sensitivity of their skin. He referred to them as Vampires, that was particularly funny.

The reality of the matter is these individuals need to wake up. It’s disgusting, it’s wrong, but if one can’t convince people to stop smoking, I don’t think anyone will be able to convince individuals to stop bleaching their skin. It’s the sad reality of life we have to live with on a day to day basis.

Do you think this problem needs to be address urgently or should we leave it alone, seeing that it’s their skin and they are not harming anyone?

What’s wrong with these people? why cant we just love ourselves and appreciate being black? It’s like Buju said: “Mi nuh stop cry fi all black woman, nuff tings a gwaan fi yuh complexion!” then his protege New Kidz sang: “Woman di way yuh hot u know mi want u…wanna take u back to my spot n do wateva u waah do…” in his song “Woman”….women r beautiful despite their colour n we should appreciate ourselves more

I agree it’s disgusting but you still can’t justify people doing this to themselves. It doesn’t matter what their social situation is like, it’s just plain wrong.
